Dear Friends for Life: “Enough is Enough”. Israel has raised the stakes in the Palestinian conflict with its brutal bombings of Gaza which has killed more than 200 people, mostly women and children, and injured thousands more. The death toll is now spiralling as Israel follows the aerial attacks with a land invasion – sending in 8,000 soldiers.
Rather than directly attack the terrorists, Israel indiscrimately sends Guided missiles with accuracy remote killing device at women, children and the elderly, destroying private homes, hospitals, art museums, local grocery centers and vital business districts. On the other side, Hamas continues their terrorists attacks on Israel creating a vicious circle. A climate of growing hostility, hatred and suffering between the two populations is deepening.
To help us better understand this harsh reality, the 2003 film “Palestine is Still the Issue” has resurfaced. The film is a prophetic masterpiece whose message is still very much alive, showing the growing disproportion between the military forces of Israel and the almost non-existent military forces in Palestine, the origins of an ongoing conflict causing continual suffering, death and destruction. With fear stamped on their faces, Palestinians live daily in poverty and are on constant alert waiting for another Israeli guided missile to hit its destinated target. Will their house be next? Or maybe the death of children playing in a nearby park?
This past week, mass media has reported the Palestinian civilian population as the main target of Israeli retaliation. Sympathy toward Israel and its past history is understandable, but this type of brutal response toward innocent people cannot be condoned. The Israeli focus is no longer terrorists but ordinary human people. It is a Crime Against Humanity.
We are all citizens of this one planet. The historical moment has arrived for our voices to echo throughout the world. Silence in the face of evil is itself evil.
